Welcome to the planning guide for showing HBO Family's hard-hitting
documentary, "Smashed: Toxic Tales of Teens and Alcohol" (SMASHED) in
your school or community. The documentary SMASHED follows six teens and
their family members through life altering injuries as a result of
alcohol use and impaired driving. Rated TV-14, SMASHED pulls no punches
in its graphic presentation of the consequences of underage drinking
and alcohol-related driving. To get started:
o ORDER: If you do not already have a copy of the documentary,
please call the National Clearinghouse on Alcohol and Drug Information
(NCADI) at 800-729-6686 and request DVD190 or VHS198 or contact your
local FCCLA (www.fcclainc.org) or SADD (www.sadd.org) chapter.
o SCHEDULE A SCREENING: Please check the RADD SMASHED calendar to see
if one is already scheduled for your community. Contact the local
school district (especially Safe & Drug Free Model Schools),
organizations like FCCLA, SADD and BACCHUS chapters and community
groups working to reduce underage drinking and alcohol related driving
among teens. We encourage you to collaborate with other schools and
organizations in your area, both private and public, to bring your
community together to confront these critical issues. o FIND
TOOLS: Materials (planner, poster, lesson plan, model press
release, etc.) available on this site will provide everything you need
to have a successful event in your community. For additional help,
please e-mail info@radd.org
or log into our SMASHED message board and network with other
communities that are using SMASHED to help educate students and parents
about the risks of underage drinking and alcohol-related driving – www.radd.org/SMASHED
o FORM AN ACTION PLAN: The film SMASHED is a powerful tool to
generate peer-to-peer and intergenerational dialogue. Your challenge is
to turn this heightened awareness into SUSTAINABLE ACTION that
addresses the problem in your community. Plan to leave time after the
screening for guided discussion about the community's concerns, teen's
concerns and a review of promising safety initiatives to address them
(party patrols, alcohol-free weekend activities for youth, driver
safety training, etc.) some of which are listed under Community Action.
o LICENSE: This DVD is licensed to RADD by HBO for screenings to
non-paying audiences in chapters, schools and community settings
only. Any form of duplication or transmission via broadcast,
cable, closed-circuit television or any other media is forbidden.
You may not take clips or stills from the film and make them available
on the Internet or via any other media. Furthermore, you may not
make any separate use of the HBO name or logo or any music in the
film. If any local media covering your screening request clips of
the documentary, please direct them to contact BLU MOON Group at
310.403.1221 or 310.245.1166 to arrange written permission.
